Privacy Policy
ReefSite's calculators and articles are free to use and don't require an account. This page explains what limited data we collect, which third-party services we rely on, and what your rights are over your own data.
Information we collect
You don't need to sign up or log in to use any calculator or read any article on ReefSite. We don't collect names, email addresses, or account data, because there's no account system. What the site does collect:
- Standard server/hosting logs - your hosting provider (and ours, once ReefSite is live on a real domain) logs basic request data like IP address, browser type, and page requested, for security and uptime purposes. This is standard web server behavior, not something ReefSite configures separately.
- Calculator inputs stay in your browser. Tank volume, dosing targets, and every other number you enter into a calculator is processed client-side and is not sent to or stored on any ReefSite server.
- Anonymized usage analytics (planned, not yet active). Once ReefSite is live on a real domain, we plan to add Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which articles and tools are actually useful. This section will be updated with specifics before that goes live.
Cookies and similar technologies
ReefSite itself does not currently set any cookies. Here's what's actually in play today, and what's planned:
- Google Fonts. This site loads the Inter typeface from Google's font CDN (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). Loading a font from Google's servers sends your browser's IP address and user-agent string to Google, the same as any external resource request. Google's own privacy policy covers how they handle that.
- Affiliate tracking cookies (planned, not yet active). Once our Amazon Associates and Bulk Reef Supply affiliate applications are approved, review and buying-guide pages will use tracked affiliate links. These set a short-lived cookie from the retailer (not from ReefSite directly) so we're credited if you make a purchase. This never affects pricing or your experience on the retailer's site.
- Analytics cookies (planned, not yet active). Google Analytics, once added, sets its own cookies to distinguish sessions and visits. We'll add a cookie-consent notice at the same time we actually turn this on, not before.
Third-party services we use
- Google Fonts - typeface delivery (see above).
- Pexels - article and review hero images are sourced from Pexels photographers, credited by name in each article. See Pexels' privacy policy.
- Amazon Associates & Bulk Reef Supply affiliate programs - referenced above; not yet active pending approval.
- Google Analytics (GA4) - referenced above; not yet active.
Your privacy rights
If you're in the EU/UK (GDPR): you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal data we hold about you, and the right to object to processing. Given ReefSite doesn't collect personal data outside of standard server logs and (once active) anonymized analytics, there's typically very little tied to you individually to request.
If you're a California resident (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion. ReefSite does not sell personal information, and affiliate-link cookies set by retailers are not a sale of your data by ReefSite.

Children's privacy
ReefSite is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If what ReefSite collects or which third-party services it uses changes (most likely: GA4 and affiliate tracking going live), this page will be updated with a new "last updated" date, and the specific sections above will be revised to match reality rather than left as a stale placeholder.
